Project summary
Terra designed and constructed a residential landscape in Karabar, NSW, responding thoughtfully to the site’s steep terrain, surrounding golf course backdrop, and local wildlife. The project carefully balanced practical construction solutions with sensitive planting and materials to create a resilient, functional, and visually cohesive outdoor environment.
Project Scope
The client sought to incorporate the lush green backdrop of Karabar Golf Course and respect the significant wombat population that has taken refuge on the property. Due to the steep slope of the site, Geohex erosion pavement was utilised to achieve the required gradients for both the pebble driveway and rolled turf areas, ensuring stability and longevity.
The rear of the property, predominantly shaded, presented an opportunity to transform an underutilised space into a tranquil fernery and contemplative retreat, offering peaceful views across the Queanbeyan River.
The designated wombat area was carefully planted with hardy native grasses and a feature grass tree—species selected for their resilience and ability to withstand regular disturbance as wombats move through the landscape.
Golden Robinia trees were introduced to provide a strong visual glow across the lawn areas, particularly striking as the midday sun reflects off their vibrant foliage.
